Participants in all programs will stay at Dalwhinnie Fields near Selma, Alabama. Dalwhinnie Fields is the site of Selma's Renaissance Festival and offers a variety of outdoor activities available to our participants in the evenings, including fishing, archery ranges, axe-throwing, horseback riding, and others. Participants will have access to on-site wifi and laundry facilities. The cost to stay in the housing is included in the program fees.
Meal plans are optional with all of our available programs and are an additional $125 per week.
Meals (Monday through Friday) are cooked on-site: continental breakfast, sack lunch, and a home-cooked dinner.
Dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, allergies) can be accommodated if requested in advance.
The food plan is offered for the entire session only, not customizable week by week.
There are a variety of restaurant options in Selma for those who do not want to take advantage of the meal plan. Students will have access to a fridge at Dalwhinnie Fields, but will not have access to a kitchen.
Daily transportation is provided between Dalwhinnie Fields and Old Cahawba Archaeological Park—participants are encouraged to use this transportation rather than driving.
Parking is available at both Dalwhinnie Fields and the park, but commuting independently is discouraged.
Travel to or from Selma, AL is not covered by the program fees.
The closest airport is Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM), approximately 1 hour from Dalwhinnie Fields.
Airport pickup/drop-off can be arranged—please notify us at least two weeks in advance.
Program hours are approximately 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Weekends are off. Those who opt into the meal plan should be aware that the meal plan is for Monday-Friday only.
Depending on the schedule, Saturday may feature optional classes, programs, events, or field trips, but these are not mandatory for attendees and may incur additional fees.
Wi‑Fi is available at Dalwhinnie Fields for participants.
Cell phone coverage at Dalwhinnie is generally reliable, but Old Cahawba Archaeological Park is more rural and does not have consistent and reliable cell signal—act accordingly when planning field work/communication.
If you require disability accommodations (e.g. mobility assistance, dietary needs, etc.), please notify us as early as possible.
We’ll work individually to determine what we can reasonably provide on-site (e.g. accessible sleeping space, restroom assistance, modified field tasks), though the environment is rustic and field-based and we cannot guarantee we can accommodate everything.
